Guys! I accomplished my New Years Resolution! I read the Bible in one year!! 🥳 I have been going to church almost every Sunday for my entire life. Literally since I was born. As an army family moving around the world one thing my parents always made sure of is that we were planted in a good church. My Mom had me attending or working Vacation Bible School every year - I’ve been in many church plays and AWANAS classes - I’ve rebelled and begged my Mom to let me wear jeans to church or to just not make me go at all! But she always made me go all dressed up tho! 😂 - I thank God for that 🙏🏻🙏🏻 But anyways having almost 30 years of being in church every week you would think that by now I would have practically read the whole bible right? Wrong. I’m not knocking the church and the way they teach, I’ve learned every important bible story and what they mean and how they can help us... but when I started reading the whole Bible from cover to cover I was amazed at just how much I HAVEN’T ever read! But “reading the whole bible” had never really been a goal of mine.. there is just so many difficult, confusing, or boring passages and it’s so long! I would usually just skip the confusing or boring parts and cherry-pick the best bits.. but once I saw that the YouVersion Bible app that had a plan on AUDIO I thought “oh I could do that while I do my morning cardio”. It’s a lot easier than taking the time to sit down and read it page by page. So okay maybe I didn’t “Read” the whole bible but I did hear it! And what’s cool about the Bible in a year plan on the Youversion app is that it has passages from the Old Testament and New Testament and a psalm or proverb daily + Plus there’s a devotional by Nicky Gumbel everyday that associates the passages together to be relevant to our everyday lives. It takes about 20-30 min a day! That’s it! I really recommend doing it! I saw such a change in my life! Starting everyday with scripture really helped me have a successful 2019. Reading it would help me stay calm if I was feeling stressed. The readings would give life advice when I needed it the most. And it helped me better understand the history of my faith. Once you read the whole thing it’s really hard to doubt that any of it happened. It’s so detailed and specific that it’s hard to believe anyone would just make it up. So ya.. after spending a year in the word, I've become a full-on Bible thumper. Everyone should read it—all of it! In fact, the less you believe, the more you should read. 🙏🏻
